Type of tourism research activities

For more than 40 years already, WES has been active in the field of tourism research and consultancy both in Belgium and abroad. WES is specialized in the management of tourism destinations.

We support the policy making in the tourism sector by:

• specific research on tourist consumer behaviour, including our study on the travel behaviour of the Belgians (with a very elaborated data bank since 1982, unique in Belgium), customer satisfaction research, studies of the economic, cultural and social impact, …
• ready-made, practically-oriented consultancy in:
  – formulation of vision and strategy,
  – product development and quality,
  – marketing planning, communication and commercialisation,
  – establishing tourism monitoring and information systems,
• relevant training courses on all these subjects.

We wish to stress following aspects:

• no other Belgian agency has specialized to such an extent and is so familiar with the sector of tourism as WES;
• during the years several hundreds assignments have been executed both in Belgium and abroad;
• WES has built up through these assignments a broad experience with regard to the different forms of tourist-recreational research and tourism planning;
• WES has a broad experience with quantitative (surveys) as well as qualitative (expert interviews, group discussions) research techniques.

Other research activities

Broadly speaking, WES is active in the field of regional and local economic development. WES acts as a specialized knowledge partner and carries out research and consultancy tasks for public bodies, private organizations and companies both in Belgium and abroad in a number of spearhead fields such as regional/local development, city centre management, retail trade management, image development and city marketing, and tourism.
